State Agencies Bulletin No. 2231

Subject
Exadata Release and PS Query Update
Date Issued
April 29, 2024

Purpose:

The purpose of this bulletin is to notify agencies of a change in how they will create/modify/run any queries using PayServ through the E-Gov application.

Affected Employees:

All agency PayServ users that currently have access to PS Query Manager or PS Query Viewer are impacted by this bulletin.

Background:

Oracle Exadata is an enterprise database platform that runs Oracle Database workloads of any scale and criticality with high performance, availability, and security. Exadata’s scale-out design employs unique optimizations that let transaction processing, analytics, machine learning, and mixed workloads run faster and more efficiently. The Office of the State Comptroller, Bureau of State Payroll Services, Systems Support Group (SSG) and the Chief Information Office (CIO) will be implementing and converting our PayServ, Oracle/Peoplesoft database to Exadata in order to provide more efficient results in running our weekly batch schedules and increase operational efficiency for users when running queries or extracting data from the system.  Currently, users access and run queries in the PS Query application within E-Gov. With the implementation of Exadata, users will now access and run queries using the same path within the PayServ Production application. Those queries will be run against a near real-time environment in the background of the system so as to not affect production resources.

Effective Dates:

May 20, 2024

OSC Actions:

Prior to the implementation of Exadata, and once internal testing is complete, OSC Payroll Systems Support Group (SSG) will reach out to agencies to request test users.

OSC Payroll Security will hold all new PS Query access requests beginning on Friday May 10, 2024. Users with access to PS Query only will be set up with access to PayServ Production beginning on May 20, 2024, or at the completion of the Exadata conversion. All users will use the PayServ application link to access queries.

Beginning on May 17, 2024, OSC SSG and CIO will begin the conversion of queries within PS Query to PayServ Production. Access to E-Gov and PayServ will be unavailable until Monday, May 20, 2024.

All queries (Locked/Private/Public) that have been executed in PS Query on or after January 1, 2021, will be moved to PayServ Production. Any queries that have not been executed since this date will be removed or not converted to PayServ Production.

Agency Actions:

Beginning on May 20, 2024, all users who previously accessed and ran queries using PS Query will access and run queries directly in PayServ Production. The PS Query application link in E-Gov will no longer be available.

Agency Security Coordinators requesting query access for employees on or after May 20, 2024, should request this access in PayServ Production, as PS Query will no longer be listed as an application in E-Gov.
